Substance Version History

Version 0.4.0 — Jan 30th 2012

This is a major release, which took us ~ 5 month to complete. 0.4.0 is a clean rewrite of the existing system, with a strong focus on usability and stability. Not only it comes with a revamped design, it also features Networks to connect people operating in the same field.  A network has two primary goals:

  • Ensure authors get read by the right audience.
  • Ensure readers get what they need and nothing they don't.

Enjoy the new release and let us know what you think!

Version 0.3.7 — Sep 19th

Substance 0.3.7 adds support for document versions, easing the publishing workflow. An improved version of Proper (0.3.1) is also part of this release.

Version 0.3.6 — Sep 11th

Proper 0.3.0 adds full editing support for Firefox.

Version 0.3.5 — Sep 2nd

Added email based invitation of collaborators. Collaborators can either view and comment on documents or have full edit privileges. We've also added a password recovery dialogue.

Version 0.3.4 — Aug 18th

Added a document export dialogue. Documents can now be exported to various formats on the fly, such as PDF, ODT, EPUB and many others.

Version 0.3.3 — Aug 4th

Upgrade to Backbone.js 0.5.2. We use regular URLs now along with pushState instead of hash-fragment routing. Also Substance documents are now indexed by Google.

Version 0.3.2 — Jul 1st

0.3.2 introduces document subscriptions, improves notification support and fixes a number of bugs.

Version 0.3.1 — Jun 17th

Integration of Letterpress, the Substance print service. Documents can now be exported to PDF, in order to be printed. We're using the LaTeX type setting system to guarantee pretty output. Print support is highly experimental though. Please let us know if you're running into issues.

Version 0.3.0 — May 24th 2011

0.3.0 adds support for user comments as well as event notifications. There's also a new TOC-overlay and various layout improvements.

Version 0.2.1 — May 12 2011

0.2.1 adds support for move-node operations, along with UI improvements and bug fixes.

Version 0.2.0 — Apr 29 2011

This release adds support for images. They can either be uploaded or embedded as Resources (using an URL).

Thanks to Transloadit for sponsoring image hosting!

Further improvements:

  • The Rich Text Editor handles some more edge cases (still not perfect — damn you, HTML Command API!)
  • Nested sections (3 Levels deep)
  • Stability improvements (fixed some edge cases where data loss occurred)
  • Improved persistence layer (Data.js 0.3.0)
