Substance is a web-based document authoring and publishing platform developed in the open and available to everyone.
Introduction
Substance is a fully web-based document authoring and publishing platform. With Substance, Writers, Scientists, Journalists and everyone who's interested in publishing can use an open platform for writing and sharing articles in a collaborative way. While existing solutions (like Google Docs) bring traditional word-processing to the web, Substance focusses on content, by leaving the layout part to the system, not the user. Because of the absence of formatting utilities, it suggests structured
content-oriented writing. Substance uses a uniform data format that allows Cross Media Publishing to arbitrary targets such as Print (PDF, LaTex), E-Book (ePub, Kindle) or integration with a website. Thus it's also fundamentally different from conventional Wiki Systems, that are based on Hypertext. Substance is Open Source, free to use and doesn't introduce vendor lock-ins.
